Kim Klein Webinar CD's

Kim Klein

Kim Klein is the foremost fundraising trainer and consultant working with grassroots nonprofits today. Her brilliant insights into fundraising, combined with a warm, no-nonsense style have made her an international favorite; and her classic, Getting Over the Fear of Asking for Money, remains a perennial favorite on the FundRaiser website.

She is the Chardon Press Series Editor at Jossey-Bass Publishers, which publishes and distributes materials that help to build a stronger nonprofit sector, and the founder and publisher of the bimonthly Grassroots Fundraising Journal.

She is also the author of Fundraising for Social Change, Fundraising for the Long Haul, Fundraising in Times of Crisis, Ask and You Shall Receive, and co-editor of Raise More Money: The Best of the Grassroots Fundraising Journal. She lives in Berkeley, CA.

Asking for Money: Five Easy Steps for Getting Past Psychological Barriers

In this webinar, we will explore the money taboo, and discuss how our feelings and thoughts about money are learned and can be re-learned. Kim will discuss the five steps to getting over your anxiety about asking (or at least getting over it enough to do some asking.)

Boards and Fundraising

Involvement of the board of directors in fundraising is key to success, yet many groups experience their board as a major impediment to their fundraising success. Is there hope for your board? In this workshop, you will learn that the answer is YES (probably.) There are ways to organize board involvement for effective fundraising. Come learn how. Bring board members.

Getting the Most out of Year End Fundraising

Do you worry that the end of the year is approaching faster than reaching your fundraising goals? Do you want to get a head start on the new year? Or, do you just wonder what people mean when they say, "We had a great year end?" Kim Klein will help you with all these questions and more in this specific, hands-on webinar discussing how to get maximum mileage out of the last two months of the year.

On Being a Consultant

In this webinar, Kim shares secrets of her success as a consultant. Learn from what she does well, and mistakes that she made. Consulting is a wonderful way to make a living, and does not have to be so fraught with feast or famine. Kim discusses how to market yourself, how to set fair fees (to you and the clients), how much to do for free, and when to say no.

Fundraising in Rural Communities

In this webinar, Kim will look at the challenges and opportunities that are present in small towns and rural communities. She will talk about the many different kinds of rural communities and how they can raise money from people both inside and outside their geographic area. This webinar will have a number of interesting case studies.

How Small Groups Can Raise Big Money

Have you ever thought, "If only we had our own building? Or, "If only we could create a reserve fund to get us through our lean times? Or "If only we had the money to build a health clinic or theater or new school?" You will be surprised at how much money you can raise, using the skills you already have, without a lot of front money. This workshop is for organizations with budgets under $750,000. Learn how a grassroots agency with a budget of $300,000 raised $1,000,000 for a building, or how an environmental group with a budget of $600,000 formed a coalition to raise $15 million to save a forest. You will learn how to plan and implement a capital campaign that works for your small organization. You will understand capital campaign concepts like feasibility studies, lead gifts, naming opportunities and how or whether they apply to your situation. You will know how to proceed and what to watch out for and how to recruit a fundraising team to help you.

How to Raise $50K in 6 Weeks

In this fast paced webinar, Kim Klein details one of the most important ideas in fundraising today: bringing volunteers together for a short specific intensive campaign, and then letting them go for the rest of the year. In this webinar you will learn both the specifics of raising a large amount of money in a short time and the process of designing all of your fundraising in short bursts.

How to Work with Boards (Even Though Boards Don't Work)

The most common complaint in all nonprofits is "Our board doesn't do fundraising." Each organization thinks that if they only did something differently, or recruited different people, the board would start doing fundraising. After 25 years of hearing this complaint over and over, Kim Klein thinks that the way boards are designed and structured is the source of this problem. However, there are a few ways to get the board on board. In this webinar, Kim will briefly discuss the problems inherent in the structure of boards, then offer several ideas for making your board do more fundraising and be more effective. These are not "Ten easy solutions." Getting a board on board takes work, but it is worth it. All are welcome to this webinar, but it is designed particularly for development staff.

Raising Money During an Election Season (Russell Roybal)

This webinar will help you with strategies for keeping your individual donor fundraising on track during this election season. You'll learn how to use the election and the issues it raises to best advantage in strengthening your individual donor program.

Successful Fundraising in Uncertain Times

In this webinar, Kim Klein will clarify how the current state of the economy is affecting nonprofits, and provide you with a process for weathering any storm. You'll learn how to:
  • Set up and maintain a disciplined fundraising program that is predictable and manageable
  • Maintain relationships with current donors
  • Find new donors without spending a fortune

Boards that LOVE Fundraising

Bob Zimmerman will discuss the four fundraising responsibilities of board members. He will also demonstrate how to move board members past their fears of fundraising, and he will provide detailed information on a variety of fundraising approaches and the role that the board can play in each area.

Fundraising Success with House Parties

Join Stephanie Roth on this webinar that will take you through the steps to planning fundraising house parties, a strategy that can raise anywhere from several hundred to several thousand dollars - and sometimes more. You'll learn the key elements to a successful house party, including how to make sure people show up, and how to maximize the fundraising potential of these popular events.

FundRaiser Training Classes

Larry Weaver, Training Director
A+ Certified Computer Technician
Microsoft Certified Professional
20+ years experience in personal computers and software

FundRaiser Training classes are designed to help you use the program to its fullest, and get you up and running in the shortest possible time. All classes are important, but it's a good idea to start with the FundRaiser Overview, which will not only give you a good understanding of where to find things and how to do some basics, like entering names and gifts, but also will help in deciding which class you'll want to take next to best serve your immediate needs. Each of these classes is less than an hour in length, and most have been taken directly from live online webinars held in the past. While there is always more to learn with software this powerful, these classes will give you a firm grasp of the basics, and will serve as a good refresher or review as you revisit them from time to time. Enjoy.

QuickBooks Integration:

This is the class that shows you how to set up FundRaiser to work with QuickBooks (Professional, Premiere, and Enterprise models, including the Non-Profit edition) to help you cut down on double-entry. It covers the initial setup, where you define the gift codes to be used to link the gifts in FundRaiser to their proper Bank and Income accounts in QuickBooks. It shows how to post the gifts to QuickBooks and how to review those posting files and print them out for a hard copy report of your posting, and much more.

Word Processing / Mail Merge:

This class is all about correspondence. You'll learn how to create and print letters, and their corresponding labels or envelopes; the differences between Automated Correspondence and Mass Mailings; merging information from donor and gift records into letters to give them that personal touch. Whether you need to create Thank You letters for donors, or invitations to that next event, or appeal letters, this is where it all begins.

Coding and Spare Fields:

This class walks you through all of the donor- and gift-related codes, with tips on how best to use them, how to create, modify, and delete them, as well as the process of creating and using spare fields to your advantage. Codes help to identify both people and gifts in unique ways, and help you to then Group people based on their giving information, or on their personal information. Some helpful tips and best practices are included, too.

Groupings:

Groupings are gatherings of people who have something in common. In other database applications you may know them as "queries". Whatever you call them, they are how you segment your database meaningfully, whether for targeted mailings (invitations/appeals), reports, or exporting data to other files/programs. You'll learn the basics and some advanced concepts, like multiple-line criteria groupings. What data can be used when creating them? ANY of it, and we'll cover most of it in this class.

Reports:

The basis of reporting is covered, and you'll also learn Advanced features that allow you to be very specific about Who will be included and What will be included in the various reports offered in FundRaiser. Donor and Master reports focus on people, while Donation and Deposit reports focus on gifts, and you also have User-Defined reports that you can create to your specifications. All this and more in the Reports class.

Pledges:

This class covers the Pledge module (optional in FundRaiser Select) and how to set up a pledge, how to record a payment gift, how to use the Automated Correspondence to get reports of those with payments coming due, as well as sending reminder and overdue letters to your pledgers. It covers both straight-forward and not-so-straight-forward pledges, including those with unusual payment terms (amounts and dates). If you have the Pledges module, you'll definitely want to review this class before you start using it.
